Risk and Compliance Manager

Peace Hills is growing! We currently have an opening for an experienced Risk and Compliance Manager, based out of our Edmonton office. Reporting to the CFO, this role is responsible for developing, maintaining, monitoring and implementing as needed, appropriate risk management and compliance programs. The Risk and Compliance Manager will design, monitor and update the corresponding framework, policies and procedures to identify and manage internal and external threats to the achievement of the organizational objectives while maintaining compliance with applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.  More specific duties include, but are not limited to:

What You’ll Do:

  • Work with Executive Management and their teams to operate within an Enterprise Risk Management framework and related policies and procedures, including adherence to the organization’s risk appetite and tolerances statements.
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure the framework remains aligned with and complies with best practices, industry/regulatory requirements, and PHI’s strategic initiatives.
  • Work with Management and their teams to identify areas of significant business risk and assist management to develop, implement, and monitor effective risk management strategies.
  • Maintain and monitor the corporate risk register through risk identification and evaluation.
  • Coordinate market conduct reporting.
  • Maintain the risk framework and methodologies so that material risks are fully assessed, managed, monitored, and reported to Executive Management and the Risk Committee of the Board.
  • Work with the Executive Management and their teams to determine appropriate processes for key risk management strategies, including the Company’s capitalization requirements, reinsurance program, and due diligence surrounding policy liability reserve and product development and pricing.
  • Ensure risks are within acceptable ranges, addressing deviations with the respective risk owners.
  • Prepare the Own Risk Solvency Assessment for approval by the Board by comprehensive identification and assessment of risk, determining own capital needs and setting internal targets.
  • Manage 3rd party risk management processes and the associated contract reviews.
  • Identify areas where the organization is at risk of non-compliance with insurance company guidelines and regulation and work collaboratively to mitigate.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies and processes around risk mitigation. 
  • Collaborate with the CFO to generate regular, insightful reports detailing compliance events, activities, and the overall status of compliance programs for leadership review.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field;
  • Professional certification in Enterprise Risk Management or Certified Risk Manager (CRM), RIMS-CRMP or equivalent designation;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Enterprise Risk Management;
  • Experience in the insurance industry is an asset;
  • Understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements in the insurance sector;
  • Superior attention to detail skills;
  • Strong business and financial acumen;
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Ability to resent and engage in discussion with the Board of Directors and Senior Management.
