Payroll & Benefits Administrator

We currently have a part-time (0.60 FTE) position available for a Payroll and Benefits Administrator in our Human Resources Department (the position is located in our Edmonton office). Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the successful candidate will contribute to the achievement of a professional and efficient business.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

⪧ Administer the complete scope of full cycle payroll on a bi-weekly basis for approximately 220 employees
⪧ Process Board of Directors payments
⪧ Ensure compliance with relevant payroll and employment legislation
⪧ Prepare various remittances for payment on a monthly and ad-hoc basis
⪧ Administer the group benefits and pension programs
⪧ Prepare accurate reports relating to payroll, benefits and pension
⪧ Reconcile payroll account balances on a monthly basis, ensuring accuracy
⪧ Participate in the cyclical external audit process
⪧ Maintain accurate employee files and records
⪧ Complete year end activities and reporting as it relates to payroll, benefits and pension including T4’s and pension administration
⪧ Oversee the time and attendance program
⪧ Administer the Wellness Spending Account
⪧ Participate in preparing the salary budget, and monitor variances between budget and actual salary costs on a monthly basis
⪧ Facilitate the service awards program
⪧ HR and payroll data filing
⪧ Other various duties as required.

Required Qualifications

⪧ Canadian Payroll Association certification
⪧ Completion of accounting courses required
⪧ Strong knowledge of payroll systems and internal controls
⪧ Minimum of 4 years of experience in administering full cycle payroll in a mid-size organization
⪧ Advanced proficiency with payroll programs and applications
⪧ Applied knowledge of audits, income tax, health benefits programs, retirement and pension plans and applicable legislation
⪧ Applied knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency procedures and calculations as they relate to Tax, CPP, EI, Taxable Benefits, etc.
⪧ Office 365
⪧ Advanced skills in Excel
⪧ Knowledge of Employment Standards
⪧ Familiar with the Avanti payroll system would be an asset.
