Accounting Administrator

We currently have a temporary 12-month term, fulltime position available for an Accounting Administrator in our Accounting Department, located in our Edmonton office.  Reporting to the Billing Supervisor for day-to-day direction, the successful candidate will contribute to the productivity and effectiveness of the accounting department. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

⪧ Liaise with our Information Technology team on programming changes to the receivables and payables modules of the Company’s core and finance/accounting systems. Perform user acceptance testing for all changes to ensure integrity of information and to identify any problems or issues. 
⪧ Resolve billing disputes with a variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders.
⪧ Oversee the payables and receivable function as a ‘last line of defense’ to ensure transactions are recorded accurately, appropriately and are within the guidelines of the company’s expense policy.
⪧ Prepare and gain a solid understanding of a variety of reports to manage receivables.
⪧ Review weekly premium refunds
⪧ Timely processing of accounts receivables, including verification and posting of payments, and running reports to manage receivables.
⪧ Resolve issues and answer questions from internal and external customers.
⪧ Reconcile receivables and commissions.
⪧ Perform administrative duties such as answering phones and inquiries, filing and scanning.
⪧ Be available as a backup for day-to-day processing of accounts payable transactions to ensure outstanding invoices and expenses are maintained.
⪧ Provide backup to team members as required.

Required Qualifications

⪧ Business Administration Diploma in Accounting/Finance
⪧ 3+ years of relevant experience in accounts payable and receivables
⪧ Effective problem-solving skills, math skills.
⪧ Possess a pleasant telephone manner and solid communication skills.
⪧ Exceptional attention to detail including a high degree of numerical accuracy.
⪧ Intermediate skills in Microsoft excel.
⪧ Fluency with Microsoft and the ability to learn new computing software.
⪧ Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a diverse team.
⪧ Professional, efficient and proactive with time-management and organizational skills.
⪧ Flexible and adaptable; able to work in an environment of shifting priorities and pressures.
⪧ Knowledge of the insurance industry would be an asset.
