FRAMS Aboriginal Museum Internship Program

July 13, 2015 - In 2014, the Board of Directors for Peace Hills Insurance committed to a four-year sponsorship of the Friends of the Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) Aboriginal Museum Internship Program. The sponsorship will be provided over a four-year period (2014-2017).

The Aboriginal Museum Internship Program is a partnership between FRAMS and the Royal Alberta Museum, providing Aboriginal students pursuing careers in Native Studies, Natural History, or Human History a 15-week internship at the Museum.

On Monday, July 13, 2015, Gene Paulsen, President & CEO of PHI, presented FRAMS with the second installment of the sponsorship.

The first year of the Peace Hills sponsorship, Michael Swampy, an undergraduate of University of Alberta, was selected as the summer intern. He spent the summer traveling to powwows and other events, recording local Aboriginal people’s thoughts and reflections. Michael turned these recordings into 3 films exploring the importance of role models for younger Aboriginal men and women as cultural traditions are passed on to a new generation.

Hanako Nagao has been selected as the 2015 summer intern. Hanako is an arts and cultural management student at MacEwan University and has been involved with the museum’s marketing projects: creating social media, interviewing museum staff for blog posts, and museum events such as Yelp’s Night at the Royal Alberta Museum After Dark!

March 15, 2014 - We are proud to announce that we have committed to a four year sponsorship of FRAMS Aboriginal Museum Internship Program beginning 2014.

We will donate $2,500.00 each year for four years with a total of $10,000.00. This sponsorship will be applied toward the total cost of supporting summer internships to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students to work under the supervision of curators at the museum.
