COMMERCIAL AUTO UNDERWRITER - CALGARY OFFICE

Our Calgary office is currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to assume the role of Commercial Auto Underwriter.  The position contributes to the achievement of a profitable and growing portfolio of business by effectively and efficiently underwriting risks. This position is responsible for reviewing quote requests and applications to determine risk acceptability, policy terms and rates to subsequently process new business, reviewing and processing renewal business, endorsements / cancellations,  providing underwriting advice and answering inquiries from brokers, advising Commercial Lines Manager of problems or concerns with brokers, liaising with personal lines, claims and accounting departments on mutual concerns, visiting brokers to communicate underwriting approaches, facilitating public relations efforts and solving problems, attending industry functions, handling expanded broker authority programs as assigned by Commercial Lines Manager, ordering and evaluating inspection / fleet reports and other related information that will assist in making sound underwriting decisions. 

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum 3+ years experience in Commercial Auto Underwriting.  The successful individual will possess highly developed interpersonal, organizational and time management skills coupled with strong written and verbal communication.  Knowledge of policy wordings, rating guidelines, strong computer skills and the ability to maintain established service levels are required.  The ideal candidate will also have completed (or is working towards) the CIP or FCIP designation.

CORPORATE UNDERWRITING ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

We currently have an opening for a Corporate Underwriting Administrative Assistant. This role undertakes all administrative duties associated with Corporate Underwriting and Marketing and involves word processing and distribution of memos and bulletins; preparing, editing and distributing power point presentations; coordinating Corporate Underwriting meetings including developing and distributing agenda and preparing and distributing minutes; maintaining computer files on shared drive including wordings, applications, manuals, brochures etc.; maintaining filing system; updating, maintaining and distributing new wordings/wording changes; arranging corporate travel; assisting with special mail outs such as annual report and new manual pages; communicating manual updates to brokers, rating companies, rate board; updating website on a regular basis on staff changes, service levels, wordings, forms, job postings, newsletters etc.; coordinating promotional items for conventions; maintaining and updating promo records and inventory; and various other administrative duties as assigned.

PERSONAL LINES UNDERWRITING ANALYST
HEAD OFFICE

We have a challenging and exciting opportunity for a Personal Lines Underwriting Analyst located in our Head Office in Edmonton. Reporting to the VP Underwriting and Marketing, this position is responsible for overall operation and performance of Personal Lines underwriting and shares responsibility for the strategic plan and achieving goals within the department. Responsibilities include development and maintenance of underwriting guidelines, policy wordings and reinsurance guidelines; providing advice and guidance on technical issues relating to policy wordings; pricing support to branch underwriting and claims departments; development of effective compliance review processes; performing underwriting audits; researching and analyzing markets, segments, geographies, lines of business, and industries and providing recommendations based on findings; liaising with computer department in the development and maintenance of our underwriting system; development and maintenance of formal internal training modules; providing support for and serving on special committees as initiated by the company; assisting in the development of marketing material and marketing programs; development and assistance in broker education through website, seminars, or broker visits.

The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth familiarity of personal lines underwriting, including 6 - 10 years experience in the field. Knowledge of underwriting procedures, reinsurance and the insurance market are required as are strong computer skills and a mathematical aptitude. We are seeking an individual with well developed organizational skills coupled with excellent verbal and written communication and the ability to handle multiple tasks. Experience in meeting / project facilitation and training experience are desirable.

This position may include some commercial underwriting projects. Some commercial underwriting experience, although not mandatory, would be considered an asset.

CONTROLLER

The Controller reports to the Vice President, Finance and Information Technology and directly supervises approximately 12 staff within the department. The Controller manages day-to-day operations of the Accounting department which includes billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and financial and reinsurance accounting. Primary responsibilities of this key position will include overseeing the preparation and review of the monthly financial statements; overseeing preparation of annual and quarterly statistical and government financial reports including the incorporation of new accounting standards and disclosures; organization and preparation of the annual company budget; coordination of year-end audits; preparation of the company’s annual report; providing management with accurate and timely financial information and analysis as requested, maintaining and developing departmental service standards, policies, procedures and supporting systems as they relate to accounting practices; regular and ongoing communication and mentoring of staff, training and evaluation of staff and ensuring performance expectations are achieved.

Our new Controller will possess an Accounting Designation and a minimum 5-7 years experience in the above mentioned areas particularly in budgeting, business planning and full-cycle accounting. Management experience is desired as is a high proficiency with computers and accounting software. Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong time-management will be required for this role. This individual will lead by example, be approachable, build relationships with stakeholders and motivate staff to deliver expected results.

Calgary Office

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will contribute to the achievement of branch growth and profit objectives. Responsibilities will include effectively promoting the company; contacting and screening prospective brokers; appointing new brokers to represent Peace Hills insurance; developing product awareness with broker force; training and educating brokers on pricing and underwriting philosophy; planning and executing broker visits and evaluating objectives of visits; identifying and developing growth opportunities; fostering internal and external working relationships; gathering and reporting market and competitive information; participating in regular broker audits and providing input on courses of action; tracking of broker production and profit performance; participation in the development and implementation of marketing/business development plans and being a prominent face of the company at industry functions.

SUPPORT SERVICES CLERK

We currently have an opening for a Support Services Clerk in our Edmonton Administration department. This position reports to the Office Manager and works within a team of administrative professionals. In this position you will be responsible for ensuring outgoing policies are accurate, complete and timely and will print, assemble and fold policies. You will also ensure efficient and accurate communication flow occurs with Underwriting Coordinators. The position involves reviewing Independent Adjuster’s investigations and investigating, evaluating, negotiating and settling claims arising under the automobile policy and liability policy. Responsibilities of this position include confirming coverage is in place and applies to reported claims, verifying entitlement to coverage, determining liability, explaining coverage and process to claimants, collecting and reviewing medical documents and treatment plans, determining when experts are required and providing direction to them, attending mediations and examinations, corresponding with Plaintiff’s Council and Defense Council, documenting all file activity, identifying questionable claims and liaising with brokers and underwriters.

We currently have an opening for a Telephone Adjuster in our Edmonton Claims Department. The position involves investigating, evaluating, negotiating and settling claims arising under the Automobile policy. Job Summary: Reporting to the Commercial Lines Manager, you will be in charged with achieving the territorial strategic and operating plan for profit, production and service of commercial property business within an assigned territory.

Responsibilities: Generate new commercial business via scheduled personal contact with brokers. Prepare underwriting terms on new and renewal business, with emphasis on in the field quoting. ACCIDENT BENEFITS SPECIALIST

We currently have an opening for an Accident Benefits Telephone Adjuster in our Edmonton office. The position involves investigating, evaluating, negotiating and settling claims arising under the Automobile policy with a primary focus on Section B benefits. Responsibilities of this position include confirming coverage is in place and applies to reported claims, obtaining recorded statements, verifying entitlement to coverage, explaining coverage and claims process to clients, collecting and reviewing medical documents and treatment plans, obtaining and verifying employment information, calculating benefit entitlements and issuing payments on a timely basis, authorizing billing for treatment modalities, corresponding with doctors, lawyers, treatment providers, employers and clients and documenting all activities. The role also involves identifying questionable claims, liaising with brokers and underwriters, arranging for treatment at specialized facilities, requesting and arranging IME’s, IDE’s and FCE’s and referring problem files to the Rehabilitation Coordinator for recommendations.
